Updated: May 7, 2021

Beloved Raleigh native, Cy King, has been involved in tennis for over 50 years. His inspiring life in the tennis industry includes playing tennis for North Carolina State University, and working as a tennis professional, college tennis coach, tennis director, and club manager. Most recently, up until his retirement in April 2020, he had been the Tennis Service Representative for USTA Southern/ USTA North Carolina since 2006.

But perhaps, Cy is best known for his 30 years as the Tennis Director for the City of Raleigh Parks and Recreation Department. In this role, Raleigh tennis was brought to life! Cy’s passion for tennis and his amazing ability to connect EVERYONE to tennis transformed Raleigh into the community of tennis that we love today.

His impact in Raleigh can also be seen in the time he spent as General Manager of the Raleigh Racquet Club as well as the years he proudly served as head tennis coach at Peace College.

Deservingly, Cy was selected as North Carolina USPTA Pro of the Year in 1996 and was inducted into the NC Tennis Hall of Fame in 2004.

As a volunteer, he has served on state, sectional, and national USTA committees including serving as President of USTA North Carolina and as President of the North Carolina Tennis Foundation. He has also remained a key advisor to the Raleigh Tennis Association. Thank you, Cy for ALL you have done for tennis in Raleigh.
