Tennis and craft beer might seem like an unlikely pair, but the Tennis on Tap Bar League event at Edit Beer in Raleigh proved they make a perfect match. This gathering brought together tennis enthusiasts of all skill levels for an evening of mini-tennis, socializing, and enjoying some of Raleigh’s finest brews. With two courts set up for fast-paced, red-ball tennis, the event created a lively atmosphere where players could connect, compete, and unwind.

Mini-Tennis with Red Balls Makes Tennis Accessible
One of the standout features of the event was the use of mini-tennis courts and red balls. Red Ball tennis is a scaled-down version of the game played on smaller courts with slower, softer balls. This format levels the playing field, making it easier for beginners to participate while still offering a fun challenge for more experienced players.
The red balls used are larger and bounce lower than standard tennis balls, which slows the game down and encourages longer rallies. Rules of the game is:
1) The Ball must bounce on your side of the court before hitting it. No taking the ball in the air.
2) Underhand serves only.
3) The team that scores 21 points first, wins! Subbing into the game happens after every 8 points.
This approach helps players focus on technique and control rather than power, fostering a more inclusive environment where everyone can enjoy the game.
Two Courts, Nonstop Action
Edit Beer’s spacious venue allowed the organizers to set up two mini-tennis courts side by side. This setup kept the energy high throughout the event, as players rotated through matches without long waits. The continuous play encouraged friendly competition and gave attendees plenty of chances to meet new people.
The courts were surrounded by seating areas where spectators and players could relax between games. This layout made it easy to grab a drink, chat with fellow tennis fans, and cheer on the matches.
Socializing Over Tasty Brews
The bar league’s name says it all: tennis and taproom fun go hand in hand. Edit Beer offered a selection of craft beers that complemented the event perfectly. From crisp IPAs to rich stouts, the variety of brews kept the crowd refreshed and engaged.
The casual setting encouraged conversations beyond tennis. Players shared tips, swapped stories, and made plans for future matches. This social aspect is a key part of the Tennis on Tap experience, turning a sport into a community-building event.
Welcoming Players of All Levels
One of the biggest draws of the Tennis on Tap Bar League is its inclusivity. The event welcomed players ranging from complete beginners to seasoned amateurs. The mini-tennis format and red balls helped bridge skill gaps, so everyone could participate without feeling intimidated.
This inclusive approach not only made the event fun but also helped grow the local tennis community. New players gained confidence, while experienced players enjoyed mentoring and friendly competition.
