Junior Council

Junior Council

The Raleigh Tennis Association Junior Council is a volunteer-based group of high school-aged youth looking to give back to their community while staying engaged in tennis. The mission of the RTA Junior Council is to promote the growth of tennis in the Raleigh area, primarily with players and enthusiasts under 18 years old. APPLY TODAY!

 

Junior Council activities:

  • Helping run local tennis tournaments and events 

  • Event programming at local tennis tournaments and events  

  • Volunteering with Abilities Tennis Associations

  • Volunteering with various tennis activities around Raleigh, including the Raleigh Pro League

  • Coaching beginners in Try Tennis sessions and other tennis outreach programs

  • Marketing programs and events on social media and our website

  • Blogging about events and community tennis stories

  • Hours participating on the Council counts toward your community service hours.

  • Leadership skills development opportunities

  • Learn project management, event, marketing, and other skills that look excellent on your college application!

  • Behind-the-scenes access to events such as the Raleigh Pro League and professional tournaments

  • Learn how to teach tennis to beginners (start on the path to becoming a tennis teaching professional!)


Committees: 

  • Event Programming: lead members in running tournaments and other events

  • Volunteering: connect members with Abilities Tennis and other volunteer opportunities

  • Coaching: connect members with Try Tennis clinics and other coaching opportunities

  • Marketing: make social media posts, write blog posts, find other marketing opportunities

 

Responsibilities:

  • Attend a monthly virtual or in-person meeting over the weekend

  • Join a Junior Council sub-committee

  • Commit to at least 10 hours of volunteering at RTA events over a one-year period  (flexible based on COVID-19 developments).

 

Must be 13-18 years of age to participate.
