RTA Board Spotlight: Welcome Dafnie!

RTA NEW BOARD MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: Dafnie Driscoll

Dafnie Driscoll started playing tennis seven years ago as a way to get involved in her new Raleigh community. She was invited to join a USTA league and was immediately hooked! “What a great way to exercise and socialize at the same time.”

Dafnie and her husband have moved several times both domestically and internationally since she started playing in Raleigh. “Everywhere we moved, we made new friends bonding over tennis.” Now they are back in Raleigh and stepped right back into our tennis family! "

Like many of us, Dafnie says league play definitely feeds her competitive nature. In fact, she has played and captained several teams which have won both at the local and state levels. She is very proud that three of her teams went onto sectionals.

Dafnie is retired now after a very successful career in Finance. With some newfound time on her hands, Dafnie was looking for more ways to get involved in the Raleigh tennis community! Past President Beth Beam recommended she apply for an opening on the board. We are so glad she did! In the January board meeting, the RTA Board voted her in as our newly elected treasurer!

When asked what she loves about tennis most, Dafnie says "I love the physical activity of tennis. However, the mental side fascinates me more. The connection between how you process information and how that translates to a reaction on the court can tell you a lot about a person's personality and how they're wired." All we can say is you better watch out for Dafnie on the court!

According to Dafnie, tennis can give us insight into not only one's game but their character. Her favorite quote: “The mark of great sportsmen Is not how good they are at their best, but how good they are at their worst” -Martina Navratilova.
